Security Officer Qualifications
The State of Maine sets the minimum standards that must be met by all security officers working for contract security guard companies. These standards are not required of security officers in proprietary security forces (hired directly by and to provide security for a private employer). Click here to see the Maine statute.
The listing below is not a full list of the requirements, but most applicants who are found to be ineligible for work as a security officer for a contract security guard company fail to meet one or more of the requirements listed.
uAt least 18 years of age.
uUS Citizen or resident alien.
uNo felony convictions.
uNo more than a two misdemeanor convictions within the last five years.
uNot have been dishonorably discharged from military service within the last five years.
uIs not a fugitive from justice.
uIs not a drug-abuser, drug addict or drug dependent person.
Seaboard Security also requires
uHigh School Diploma or GED.
uAbility to read, write and speak English.
uNo misdemeanor convictions for theft, assault, criminal mischief or criminal threatening.
Physical requirements vary, depending on the job site. Lifting more than 25 pounds is unusual, but extensive walking and climbing stairs is not.
